If your expectations for Star Wars: Ahsoka weren’t already sky-high, they might be after this trailer. A glimpse at the extremely blue face of Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen)! Hera (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) getting very stern with a council that includes Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly)! Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) cutting her hair!

And then there’s one word that tells us so much about the relationship Sabine and Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) have had since we last saw them: “Master.”

Sabine had a lightsaber in previous looks at Ahsoka, but now we know that Ahsoka was training her, and that she walked away from her apprentice. Why? Presumably we’ll find that out, but this adds so many more wrinkles to their relationship.

And then there’s the little matter of war, which Baylan (the late Ray Stevenson) says is coming, but that’s nothing new. It’s Star Wars, not Star Parties.

Star Wars: Ahsoka reunites the crew of the Ghost, from Star Wars Rebels, and takes place post-Return of the Jedi, in the chaotic time after the fall of the Empire. For Thrawn—the Empire’s most cunning strategist (maybe its only cunning strategist, let’s be honest)—to make a play for control at this moment in time makes perfect sense. First, though, we gotta find out where he’s been since he and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) disappeared in the company of a lot of space whales at the end of Rebels.

Star Wars: Ahsoka also stars The Expanse‘s Wes Chatham, Ivanna Sakhno, Diana Lee Inosanto, Temuera Morrison, and Hayden Christensen. The two-episode premiere is on August 23rd on Disney+.
